Fake Trajan sestertius with River god and Dacia reverse

I am sad to say that apparently there may be a several fakes in my collection.  I would like to try to identify and eliminate them all as much as possible.  Someone pointed out that the Trajan sestertius with river god and Dacia reverse was probably a cast fake.  I looked at the edge and noticed that it was mostly hammered and smoothed to hide file marks which were still visible in a very small area.   Thus there is no doubt that this is indeed a cast fake.  For this reason I transferred it from my Trajan to my black box gallery and adding a record to the fake coin gallery.

I agree. The edge, the surfaces and the soft details don't look convincing to me.

For me tooled genuine and fake are not the same, unless the tooling involves a modification of design or legend, which is obviously not the case here.

It appears to be cast to me. Hence the dodgy edge Charles has reported.

I have seen many fakes that were cast that had no visible trace of casting in photos this size. I have seen some cast fakes that were very difficult to detect even in hand, some even under a microscope. I do think it looks suspicious, and I would be very surprised to learn that it is genuine.
