Without leaving this page, identify the Emperor from his provincial coin portrait.  These should be easier than the last quiz so If you know 4 or more hold off from answering for a couple of days.

I'll have a go as I can only recognise 3 of them.

C - Phillip I
E - Marcus Aurelius
J - Caracalla

No idea about the rest though.

    • A Handbook of Late Roman Bronze Coin Types 324-395.
F. Trebonianus Gallus ?  (Looks like an older version of some Herrenius Etruscus portraits to me.)

G. Tiberius ?  (Doesn't really look like him, I am just struck by the left facing bust - which is illogical I know given number of left facing busts on provincials).

I couldn't resist and had to look through your gallery.  I will be shocked if anyone gets G, but I hope someone surprises me!

Another great quiz!

Thanks Nick! I didn't realize this would be as difficult as it is. These are easy if you own the coins. ;D

Me too, frustration got the best of me.  Kinda obvious if you know what you're looking at (or own the coin) and stare at them long enough.  Indeed, a great quiz but clearly haven't studied my emperors for while.

BTW, what a nice presentation of some great provincials.
