bronze of Caracalla/Elagabalus for Carrhae
« on: November 11, 2022, 11:16:40 am »
Hi everybody
i own this little bronze 15,1 mm. Ø - 2,33 g. that first impression reminds me the bronze struck by Caracalla/Elagabalus in Carrhae (the coins was found in Jordan).
The obverse represents e radiate head end its possible to spot the letter NЄ (i suppose belonge to the legend AV K M ANTωNЄINOC).
The reverse depicts the crescent with pendant fillets (usual Carrhae's symbol) but instead of having a six rays star or a rosette of seven pellets as usual, above the crescent is represented another smaller crescent (doesnt appear to be double stuck). I couldnt find this variant on internet and BMC.
Any help would be very much appreciate.
Best wishes Filippo
