Overly cleaned coin - Price 3588
« on: December 12, 2021, 11:34:55 am »
I have only done this 4 times but this time was different.  I put the ridiculously glossy coin in a bag with boiled egg for an hour.  The other coins all just dulled a little and took the car waxed look away. This coin turned golden with some blue edges.  I am not a patina or sliver chemistry expert - anyone know why it reacted differently?  Any patina experts know if this golden hue will last long term? I really like it although some people may think I just committed a crime against nature. Don't hate.

Nothing magical here.  Your coin's surface had very fresh silver on it, likely recently cleaned, and the sulfur in the egg yolks created silver sulphate fairly readily.  AKA: tarnish or Patina
