The problem with
cast transfer dies is that they sometimes made more than one transfer die pair out of the casting mould/impression and sometimes they recutted the transfer dies different (for example dots of dotted
border). Ok, if they did recut the dots of dotted
border wrong (different size, number and position) it is a way to detect them as transfer dies with die studies but that is much
work.
Back to
TauromeniumWhre the flan/planchet of the host/mother ends on
reverse (
pink arrow), there is a line and hight difference.
Letter "N" on
reverse is damaged and other letters, too.
On
reverse 1-2 o clock is corrosion (
bronze disease covered with wax) on the mother which was transferred into the transfer dies.
My problem is the top coin (picture 2), it has a different dotted
border on the
obverse but the same corrosion on
reverse 1-2 o clock and the same ghost line on
reverse where the
planchet ends on the mother (the
patina does not look
good on the top coin, looks exactly as the smooth shiny
patina of many but not all
Sicily transfer die fake bronze fake).
