Title: Do these green dots look like Bronze Disease??
Post by: ByeongJin K on April 06, 2022, 07:31:13 am
Hello!

I hope you all having a great week.

Recently, I started to collect ancient coins, and I received a Macedonian coin just a day before.
I was busy yesterday, so I just started to enjoy the coin today.
However, I found some green dots on my coin, and since I've heard so many bad things about bronze disease, I'm worried about it.

So this is the picture of the coin uploaded by seller on Vcoins.

Oops, Sorry. I'm from the country where not so many communities are in 'forum' style.
I accidentally posted an incomplete post.

Anyway, here are the pictures I took a minute ago
My picture is a mess, but please understand...I did my best to take picture with my phone.

Oh...I see...Maybe I should consider returning this coin.  :-[
I have waited to receive this coin for a month and I'll have to return it right after I see it :/

Putting it in some distilled water and picking at it with a toothpick will help.

Thank you for your prompt reply and advice, Mat.
What I fear most is I may harm this coin...the money I paid for this coin is not that much, I don't really need it back.
I really like this coin and want to own it, but I fear that the coin may get worse and worse because of me.
I may not be able to pay enough attention in treating this coin since I recently started an internship, and whats more important is that in my country, there are very few offline shop who can get help with this problem...
Maybe the seller who's more veteran than me can handle this problem. I don't really want to harm the history and beauty in this coin.

But while waiting for a reply from the seller, I should try the method you told me.

There is a chance it will come back. But that happens with most ancient coins. I've had some and treated and go years without any issues, and then there is some I have treated and it keeps coming back no matter what I do to it. And those, I will let go.

I also live in a dry environment, so I can't blame humidity.

Is the green dusty powder that you can get out of the pits with a toothpick (bronze disease) or solid not powder (not bronze disease)?
