What means VOT on Roman silver ring?

(1/1)

extravaganza:
Hello,

Is there anyone who can tell me what "VOT" on a silver Roman ring means?
Does it mean the same a VOT(a) on a coin? I found similar questions on the internet but there were given zero answers. So if anyone knows, i'll be very happy!

Regards Joost

SC:
Not exactly the same as coins - where the VOT plus numeral refers to vows for the Emperor's health and reign.

But it is likely short for "votvm" which means vow, prayer, hope, desire, etc.  I guess it refers to some personal vow.  Perhaps the ring was made and then offered when the vow was completed or alternately was offered in hope of having the vow fulfilled.
