Is this Trajan Denarius Genuine?
« on: May 08, 2007, 10:11:10 pm »
First of all I would like to thank everyone in this dicussion board. You have all been very helpful in the past.
I bought this silver denarius of Trajan at a coin show recently and am wondering if it is genuine or a counterfiet.
I don't seem to be able to match the obverse and reverse combination and the obverse legend is interupted at the hair ribbon, IMPC_ _ SNERVATRAIANAVGGERM
It is about 17.5-18 mm diameter, weighs 2.7 grams and appears to be silver.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Looks fine to me (photo is fuzzy; I trust it's the photo).  That curious Hercules probably is their rendering of an old Hercules statue that they didn't understand very well, stylistically.  I have one (and have seen a host of others) not very different from yours.  Pat L.

Thank you, and yes the photo lightly pixelated when it uploaded.
