Authentication of Chinese ancient coins
« on: August 12, 2021, 10:43:59 am »
Dear All,

about 10 years ago I have bought these about 30pcs Chinese ancient coins on Ebay, they were cheap but I didn't save their price.
Can you help me to decide if they are fake or not?
Weights: 2,5gr - 5gr, but average about 3,3gr.
Diameter: 23-25mm
Diameter inner square: 6-7mm.
The coins are very thin.

Thank you for help
Gabor

Gabor,

These are actually Vietnamese coins not Chinese.  At least all the ones I can make out are.

I can see lots of Canh Hung Thong Bao (1740-1776) of Emperor Le Hien Tong and a few variants from the same time such as the Canh Hung Cu Bao.

They look genuine and are not particularly rare or known to be widely faked.  The CHTB are shown in over 80 varieties in Barker's book with another 10 varieties of CHCB.

I agree with Shawn and do not see any reason to suspect they are fake.
