Dobunni gold stater – divided opinions.
« on: September 27, 2022, 02:20:36 pm »
I wonder if I could get views on this coin which is in my possession?

I have had several people tell me that it is real and others that it is fake.  It weighs 5.5g, diameter is 17.62mm and thickness 3.1mm.

It was purchased from the finder as a present for myself so it would be great if it was authentic but if it isn’t then it’s no big deal, I would just like to be certain of its status.  Thanks.

I do not recall seeing an obverse like that before. Not a condemnation but I have strong doubts. Photo colors are not always accurate but it does not look like gold.
