Title: Greek - Thessaly - Larissa - Is this a seam?
Post by: Sophie L on July 21, 2021, 07:12:09 pm
New, first time posting, and just getting started detecting fakes. I'm not sure if I'm understanding what a seam looks like.

I suspect this is reproduction:
1. the weight appears to be incorrect.
2. I see what I *think* is a seam.

I looked through the fake reports for Thessaly Larissa here: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/thumbnails.php?album=35
and I'm not seeing any that are quite alike - am I expecting too close a match?

 4.84g
17.8mm

Am I on the right track? Thanks for the help I'm LOVING learning about ancient coins here.

Yes, it is fake, unfortunately.

Yes, that is a seam.
Sadly, a cast fake.

The details are also quite 'soft', especially around the lettering.
