Yesterday I got a call at work from a foreign (outside the USA) dealer - he left a message that I needed to pay for a sestertius of Volusian I had bought/won around the end of August.    Since I collect Volusian I am worried that I am overlooking something but he didn't leave any contact information and assumed I knew.  For the life of me I can't figure out who he is or what company he represents.  Does anyone recognize this or a similar name so I can make contact?  On the message his name sounds something  like Ciano Christiano or Ciano Christianson

Once or twice each year I am confused with another Richard Beale (owner of ROMA Numismatics in the UK) and get calls to pay for coins he bid on and even get mailed coins which I have to return since they are not for me!  But since thisinvolves a Volusian, which I specialize in, I am probably the right RB.

Thank you,
Richard Beale, USA

I somehow doubt that the site which you link to, which was last updated earlier this year, is the hobby site of the "other" (UK) Richard Beale. Whilst this 249-253AD site is admirable in its own way, it doesn't quite match the immaculately professional presentation standards of the "other" (UK RB) websites and catalogues. I rather think this is the hobby site of "this" (USA) Richard Beale.

Thanks for reading the post. I am the USA Richard Beale and the "marius1/mysite/' target='_blank'>Four Bad Years" site is mine(I was born and spent my early years in the UK but have lived in the US the rest of my life), whereas the Roma Numismatics is owned by the UK Richard Beale (I beleive he still resides there).

I can never blame anyone for not suspecting there are two people in our small world of ancients with the same uncommon name, but it does sometimes cause mischief.

And I have a nice "Roman" middle name  :)

Richard Marius Beale, USA

I plan on changing my name to Richard Beale. I would love to receive some of the coins that Roma Num purchases. Even if it is only to handle them for a moment before returning them.

Would the real Richard Beale please stand up?

I'm Spartacus... no, wait...

Believe it or not, there are actually three Richard Beales in our small numismatic world. There is another Richard Beale who works at Warwick & Warwick.

There's a fair chance that UKRB2 = WWRB3. Ancient coin experts often support other non-specialist auctioneers and it seems that WW is as much a stamp, postcard, toy, medal auctioneer that probably doesn't have a resident ancient coin expert.

I've had a look around the website of US RBeale1, and it's pretty interesting. Richard (whoever you are) you should add its address to your Forvm signature line:

We have some witty people here and it is good fun to read your posts :)

I took Andrew's suggestion and added my website link to my signature.

Best regards, Richard

Fortunaely I was able to discover the dealer - his name is Luciano Cristino, and so I paid for the coin.

Glad you finally find out who it was Richard.

I'm not quite sure whether you were joking or not there Andrew...

A coda to the saga of the multiple Richard Beale's (numismatists). I was in the British Museum study room last week and spoke with someone who was studying Roman Imperatorial coinage, and whose general interest area is the Roman Republic (as a collector). His name was Phil Davis ....

I'm beginning to imagine there are parallel universes out there, each well-known numismatist having several mirrors who just happen to be studying the exact same areas.
