Hadrian ??
« on: April 10, 2008, 02:52:41 pm »
Checked all the usual resources,  I think this is Hadrian,  at least thats what I was told when I bought it.  but I cannot find  a coin matching  this head right  and this reverse.  I did find one on WW

http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/hadrian/RIC_0561b.jpg

but as I said the bust is different

as far as legends go,  the only visible one is  SC in the Exergue

the coin itself is 32 mm 20.7 grams

thanks for the help

What about this one?  It looks like Roma seated holding a cornucopiea on your pic.

Hadrian, Sestertius 25.13g, AD 125-128, laureate head right, drapery on left shoulder, rev COS III Roma seated holding Victory and cornucopiae (RIC 636).

You're welcome.

Nope, not WW.  Coinarchives.   ;D

Search link:

http://www.coinarchives.com/a/results.php?results=100&search=hadrian+and+sesterius+and+cos+iii+and+roma+and+seated+and+cornucopiae

Here's another example.  I really like this one.  very nice.  Which is why I guess it went for 600 bucks...

HADRIAN. 117-138 AD. Æ Sestertius (29.17 gm). Struck 125-128 AD. Laureate and draped bust right / Roma seated left on cuirass and leaning on shield, holding Victory and cornucopiae, right foot on helmet, left on rock. RIC II 636; Cohen 343. VF, green-brown patina.
