Does anyone have a good reference for the paired letters that appear on either side of the patriarchal cross or shield on these Hungarian denars?  I have quite a few and would like to know their significance.  Thanks in advance.

Regards,

David

Here are 2 varieties of 1526 L-V Hungarian Denar under King Louis II. The second one has more folds in Madonna's robe under the knee and there is a slight difference in the eagle in the crest. Huszar 841,Unger 673( ).

Here are 2 1528 C-Lily Hungarian denars under King Ferdinand I. The first one is billon with a curved shield;I believe it is Huszar 943 and Unger 744d var. The second is silver with 3 pellets around the shield and is another variant of Unger 744d. I tried with less light on the billon.

Both of these are Hungarian Denars under King Matthias Corvinus;the first a 1482-90 n-crossed hammers Huszar 720,Unger 566i.. The second a 1468 B-S Huszar 717,Unger 562d. On the n-hammers,I tried with less light. I was called in to work before I posted the new pictures. The cross in the shield looks like it was double struck. I will try to take a better picture.

I thought I would post a little better pictures of the 1482-90 n-Crossed hammers since I had so many pictures. The shield side seems to be struck much weaker than the other side and double struck. From one side to the other is as different as night and day.
