ID for Bucket-shaped Artifact, please
« on: May 28, 2022, 01:04:32 pm »
Ave!

Lead; 43mm/16.2gm

As seen in the photo, connector loop above a tripod attached to the hollow bucket; three lugs and three heart-shaped below them, one broken off in antiquity.
Beneath the bucket, one central loop and three about the edge, two broken off in antiquity.

Most likely a Celtic artifact as it was ground-found in the environs of a Celtic settlement south of the River Drava, Croatia.

Any thoughts, surmises or conjectures as to its use will be highly appreciated!

Definitely Celtic.  It is unclear exactly what they decorated - horse harness, buckets, around the house??  Apparently they are common on Central European Celtic sites.

Ave!

Here is another but much smaller example.

Copper alloy; 18mm/4.2gm

Note how the two original links to the bucket are simply twisted rather than being connected as would have been on a Roman artifact.
