John III ?
« on: March 09, 2020, 05:39:40 pm »
Hello. Please help me with this trachy (~30 mm, 3.07 gr). In general it looks like John III Sear 2103, but there is legend  :Greek_Gamma: :Greek_epsilon: :Greek_Omicron: :Greek_Rho: :Greek_Gamma: by the left hand of St George. On other examples that I see on the internet there is a short monogram: http://labarum.info/lbr/show.php?coin=21030.  Does it matter ?

Another specimen (29 mm, 4.49 gr).  Do these two coins belong to the same type???

I think you are dealing with an area that the variation might be very acceptable.  Rarely do I note the legends of the 12th century coinage because of  small variations.
