The Last Group of My Parthian Silver, For The Time Being.
« on: January 08, 2016, 04:29:21 pm »

Any interest in some more Parthian coins? You are invited to take a look at the last batch of my Late Parthians II AR drs and BI tdrs. We had stopped at the 2 rare issues of Osroes II. Just to refresh your memories:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-125917.

The next ruler is Vologases V. with rare facing drs and wild tdrs:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126068,
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126069;

they are followed by 3 BI tdrs and 14 drs of Vologases VI. in the twilight of the empire:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126215,
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126217;
the drs are of much better quality, and I will list the links here in groups  to make viewing easier:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126274;

the coins of Vologases’ brother Artabanos IV are much rarer, so I will show all 5 of them:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126277,
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-126281;

and last, but by no means least, the mysterious prince Tiridates who may have lasted against the Sasanians until 228 AD and used Artabanos IV. obv. dies in the rush of the Parthian end game, adding his name to the rev. dies:

Some of these coins have the desirable pedigree of having been part of the David Sellwood Collection

Thanks again for taking the time to view my coins,
Schatz

Great group, Schatz, with some prime examples of the various types.  The later coins from the series don't tend to get the respect they deserve, imo.

Thanks again, Bob,

and let me say that I know I would not have devoted all this time to post the gallery if it had not been for your steadfast encouragement and advice. Eventually, perhaps, more members will become interested in Greek Orientals and traffic may increase.
In any event, now that I am at it, I will continue working on the Parthian bronzes, Elymais silver and bronzes, and the medley of Parthia-related Central Asian and Roman coins I have. So this should keep me busy, especially since I will have to spend more time on attributions and then, photographing bronzes is a whole new chapter for me.

Regards as always,
Schatz

S hatz,
I don't collect Parthian coins, yet even I can see that your collection is special. Well done and well researched! You're creating a nice online resource for other collectors who may be starting-out in this area.

Carausius,

thanks for your compliment. I'd feel gratified if my gallery turned out to be useful to collectors of ancient coins even from outside the empire. After all, the Parthians played a role in ancient history for almost 500 years.

Regards,
Schatz

Thanks, Quadrans,

I am very flattered, and your encouragement will fire me up to put up the remainder of my collection. Working on one's gallery is such a perfect occupation during the drab winter months!

Schatz

Thanks, Peter,

I am really always happy to hear that something I did is useful. And, of course, believing the Parthians are deplorably underrated among collectors of Ancients, I thought perhaps someone will become intrigued enough by a systematical gallery to get some of those strange portraits for his/her own collection.

Regards,
Schatz
