« Last post by gallienus1 on Today at 02:48:08 am »Researchers from the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam have published a paper in the journal Antiquity showing that the Byzantine Empire provided Western Europe with the silver needed to make silver coins in the mid-7th century AD. Increased demand in the next century required a shift in the supply of silver from Byzantium to a mine in Charlemagne’s Francia.
