Fecunditas.. Pregnant?
(1/1)
AncientCoins:
Hello all, I recently acquired this Salonina FECVNDITAS AVG. The description of an example from Wildwinds described Fecunditas as pregnant. Is this true? Also, what is the meaning of the small child at her feet? I'm guessing that Fecunditas is the goddess of fertility? :)

Ave Andrew!
You might like to see this (all-too-brief, but interesting) article in the NumisWiki, if you haven't yet.

Best regards,

curtislclay:
Fecunditas usually indicates childbirth, and the children in a Fecunditas type often refer to the offspring of the empress, most strikingly on the coins with reference to the children on Faustina II and Marcus Aurelius.
Fecunditas herself is never depicted pregnant. That is fantasy!
