There is an upright scratch through the body of the stag, but I see the stag :).

Well it really is, only now I noticed it when you wrote about the scratch. I apologize for the muddiness of my blindness , I don t know why I imagined a standing neked woman  ;).

I believe that Artemis was one of the few gods/goddesses that were never depicted naked. She was goddess of childbirth and chastity, among other things. Bad things happened to any man who saw her naked, such as Actaeon and Siproites. The exception may be the depictions of her with multiple breasts, but she is never completely naked. The Asia Minor depictions of her as fertility goddess, as at Ephesus, are completely different than the huntress depictions. Both are seen on coins. Here is a pic of the Ephesus version that I have seen in person at the museum in Selcuk, modern city near ancient Ephesus.
