Thanks . I have really enjoyed it. I am just starting to organize some of my uncleans as well so will be loading them into a separate gallery. Most of them are pretty common but they deserve a gallery as well. Most will be a work in progress but the winters are long here in Canada.

Today I am starting a new Gallery with coins that I have gotten uncleaned and have been cleaning them. Most I feel will be in a constant state of trying to improve but I will upload the ones that I am most happy with. Obviously they will primarily be the common types but I still believe they deserve a showing.
I am starting with one of my favorite series.
This is a Campgate from Constantine I
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152422
The second is another area were I am thinking I will focus on , which is Gallienus Zoo series.
My first Antelope.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152421
And finally today I have an Aurelian with the VIRTVS MILITVM reverse, which this version not in RIC.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152420
I believe I have all the attributions correct, but as always if you see a mistake please don't hesitate to tell me.
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.

Nice all, and the Gallienus revers are great... +++

Here are my three coins for today to add to my gallery.
My first Domitian provincial from Side. Thanks to shanxi and FlaviusDomitianus for helping to identify
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152587
Another Gallienus, this time with Sol reverse
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152586
A fairly rare Campgate from Constantine the Great
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152585
-
Here are the new additions to my gallery today.
I bring today
a nice Fallen Horseman from Constantius II
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152624
a VOT XXX from Constantine The Great (not sure what to make of the edges on it)
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152625
also a very sharp Licinius , not 100% clear inf I have the exergue correct. I believe it should read dot SMK which would make it not listed in RIC. However, what I read as the Dot could just be part of the S missing off SMK.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152626
Anyways if anyone has any opinions on any corrections I need to make, just give me a message.
Thanks again for looking and any comments.

Blayne => congrats on a great looking gallery

I love the yesterday's Domitian provincial from Side with ...
=> "Athena advancing left, holding pomegranate, spear and shield, serpent at foot" (very cool reverse)

Another Gallienus with the same Ric as two other coins in my gallery.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152661
This one okidoki and otlichnik helped identify as a Hadrian with Clementia reverse.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152660
The final one today shanxi pointed me in the right direction with a Severus Alexander.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-152659
Thanks for looking and hope you have a great day.

Blayne => congrats on a great looking gallery
Thanks Steve its been a blast and a huge learning curve. There are lots of great coins out there that I am putting on my list..... some are crazily expensive though.
I love the yesterday's Domitian provincial from Side with ...
=> "Athena advancing left, holding pomegranate, spear and shield, serpent at foot" (very cool reverse)
I loved the reverse too, especially the serpent. It looks like the serpent is severely mad

Been a little bit since I have updated my gallery.
Today I am showing off three coins from Aurelian.

Q.

Hi,
Nice lot! Like the bust of the 3rd one especially!
Harry
-
Thanks Joe and Harry
I am going to have another three tomorrow to show.
One has an exceptional obverse in my opionion, however it has been harshly cleaned in spots before me.
Just getting weights and measurements tonight
-
Here are my next three coins from Aurelian.
The first looks better in hand but I have struggled to get a photo of it. I have included two-one mine and the vender photo with the white background.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153152
The next one is very nice. Great colouring and obverse strike. However, has been over cleaned at one point in parts. Rated scarce from Ticinium. My first coin from that mint.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153151
And the third is another with the Sol Reverse, this time from Siscia.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153150

Nice group, again... ;) +++
Q.

Adding three more coins today. All are tough to capture their uniqueness. Do have a new SLR on order so hopefully the future will bring better photos
All of these are pretty common
A Gallienus with Victory reverse
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153175
A coin from Antonius Pius honouring Marcus Aurelius
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153174
and a Probus with Mars reverse. I do like the strike on this one.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153173
-
I like all three ...
+++ +++ +++
... but man, I really love the Probus & Mars example (great reverse ... looks a bit like Mars has his electric guitar over his shoulder)
;)
Oh, and the eagle-tipped sceptre on the obverse is also a great touch (great coin)
-
Today I am uploading two similarr coins from Licinus with Jupier reverse and an Antonius Pius.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153413

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153411

Dear Blayne, nice new additions, +++
The last two coins little bit over cleaned, they do not need cleaning too strongly, just carefully :)

Thanks guys for all your kind words regarding my gallery. It has totally been a blast and I am enjoying find new areas of interest and creating an expensive want list.
Today I am happy to add 3 more to my gallery.
This first one is my first hoard coin. It is in uncleaned condition and it is from the South Petherington Hoard.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153557
Secondly I have my first coin from Philip II celebrating his Olympic glory.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153555
Last but not least is a fairly common Campgate, which will be a part of my growing Campgate collection.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153556
Hope you enjoy..
-
Hi Blayne,
All 3 are great! The campgate one is in very nice condition, and I like the reverse of the Philip. The Victorinus is really nice too, and it's always good to have coins with provenance!
Harry
-
Atta-boy, Blayne ... those are 3 cool additions (congrats)
+++ +++ +++
Hey, I also have a pretty cool Constantius-II campgate example ... it has two open doors, which is apparently a tad more rare than the typical campgate examples
... wanna see it? (hey, I will delete it if it's cluttering-up your sweet thread, okay?)
-
Hey Steve P
No worries, that is a great Campgate. I havent gotten any with doors yet, so I am extremely jealous over that nice set. +++
-
Good morning!
Here are four more additions to my gallery.
First off a very sharp Maximianus with desert patina.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153567
Secondly, another Campgate though this my first from Nicomedia.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153566
Next is a well worn Claudius, but it is my first of his. With Minerva reverse.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153565
Last, I have a Valerian, with a VICT PART reverse from Viminacium
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153564
Hope you all enjoy and have a great day!
-
Hi Blayne,
Nice lot - especially the Valerian - interesting reverse!
Harry
-
Thanks Harry. Yeah the Valerian took me a bit to attribute as it doesnt seem to be very common. Wildwinds I dont believe showed one with the shortened reverse legend, and Ocre listed it but showed no examples. I did find some previous sales on acsearch to verify the attributation.
-
The standard attribution today of your new Valerian is Viminacium not Milan; Göbl 847b, 9 spec. in his photofile. Doesn't OCRE attribute to Viminacium?
I personally think that attribution is an error, or at least I remain to be convinced, as I have probably mentioned elsewhere in Forvm over the years!
-
Curtis thanks for keeping me on my toes.
You may be right, I may be wrong (I think someone wrote a song about something similar)
Just double checked the OCRE and it still does show Milan . I will have to double check my Sear later tonight. I dont have any Göbl yet, so unable to verify.
You just gave me more work to do. and some more research :)
-
Sear 9982 follows the current orthodoxy: Viminacium.
-
Yeah just saw that. I also checked the acsearch records I looked at after locating the info through Ocre and they are all showing Viminacium. Thank you again and I will get my info on my attributation updated
-
You may be right, I may be wrong (I think someone wrote a song about something similar)
Johnny Lydon! 😎

-
Sharing 4 additions to my gallery. Have had these ones a bit, but finally getting around to load them. A couple of them I have struggled to get decent photos so I may upgrade the photos later.
Salonina with Juno reverse
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153579
My first Gratian
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153578
A Scarce Fallen horseman
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153577
and a Constantius with what I assume is a clashed die showing on the obverse
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153576
Hope you like and have a great day!
-
Your collection/gallery nicely growing... +++
Q.
-
Thanks Joe. Been pretty happy with it so far. Though the wife has been less then enthusiastic whenever I buy another coin. She won’t be happy today.
I had her hooked when I thought I had a Zenobia in one of my uncleaned lots. Still planning on sending that coin away to have her checked when I get it a bit more cleaned. Also will give me an excuse to buy the last of the Sear books.
-
Nice! ... hey Blayne, my cool Canadian coin-bro, I am loving your new collection additions (congrats)
Yah, although my wife is also a bit of a collector (primarily books, first editions), the good ol' ancient coin collector usually has a more aggressive and more compulsive collecting-appetite, eh? (ummm, addiction is such an ugly word), so yah, sometimes she'd give me the ol' stink-eye if I started buying too many coins
;)
=> I wish you all the luck in continuing your ancient coin-hobby "and" your marriage (hopefully both are super-fun and rewarding pastimes?)
-
Unfortuanately, my wife has no collecting hobbies, and I mocked her when she started doing Scrapbooking years ago, so really karma must be biting me in the ass. Though she does seem to spend a fortune following her favorite band around. Probably spent more then all my coins for her to meet her idol, Rob Thomas.
-
Ahaha ... yah, unfortunately that "groupie, stalking hobby" usually pays-off very little in the long-run
;)
I have a sister-in-law that spends a whole lotta cash attending miscellaneous Bon Jovi concerts (*awkward*)
Hey, I admit that I always loved Stevie Nicks in the ol' days, but luckily I never decided to spend all of my money riding the bus that followed their Fleetwood Mac bus (yup, I dodged a bullet)
-
I've been lucky ... so far. Every time I buy more coins I expect to receive that glare from my wife. So far I've dodged the bullet. Maybe I should ramp up the purchases and push my luck? But seriously, although she is not a collector she spends money in her own ways, and I don't reign her in, either. Neither of us are spendthrifts (I try to hold my discretionary spending down really low on everything other than numismatics), and what comes around goes around. Stkp
-
Finally getting around to post a few more today
Again some of these have been tough to get decent photos
First up a very bold Licinius II with Jupiter reverse. I love the attitude with the Thunderbolt.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153792
Next are two similar coins , One Carus and the other Carinus, one rated commmon the other scarce.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153791
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153790
and finally a small campgate from Theodosius, also rated scarce.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153789
Hope you all have a great weekend.

Four winners, Blayne ...
+++ +++ +++ +++
=> congrats on adding those beauties
Oh, and have a great Friday night!

Thanks Steve, probably going to be shoveling all night, we just got buried in snow. Though my dogs were loving it when I snuck away from work to walk them.
-
Fun! => awesome golden retrievers ... oh, and despite the snow, it looks like a lovely day there today
Cheers, Blayne
-
Some very nice additions- I like the Theodosius campgate with the nice sand patina! Also the obverse and reverse dog photo! 😂
-
Thanks Robin. That sand patina is what stood out to me as well.
-
Beautiful dogs Blayne, but then I'm a little partial to retrievers. Here's my flat-coated retriever Repo...
- Peter
-
Hes very handsome, probably knows it as well. :)
-
Oh yeah!
I got him from the rescue center when he was 10 months old, and he'd already been adopted and returned twice, hence the name 'Repo'.
- Peter
-
lol I'm sure hes found his forever home now. How old is he now? With all the people on here with dogs we should have a dogs and coins board.
My youngest golden has gotten into the habit of stealing the rags I use to clean my uncleaned coins on, Sent more than one coin flying....
-
He's a little over 6 now, and in truth he absolutely rescued me.
He steals your coin rags? Obviously a dog with good taste! lol
- Peter
-
Well getting back to coins after the brief dog interlude lol
Still catching up with my back log of coins to add to my gallery.
Today I am showing off
a very nice Licinius I with desert patina
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153883
one of my first Marcus Aurelius bought through Forum Auctions
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153881
and my first Julia Domna denarius bought again through Forum Auctions
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153882
Now back to the dogs....
-
+++
Congrats on your new additions
-
I was mentioning my dog stealing my rags... Well at lunch I hear a crash and I find this waiting for me.
He's got one of my rags and my coin scrubbing toothbrush. My dremel and electric toothbrush are laying on the kitchen floor. He really just wants to help...
-
Man, that's a pretty cute dog ... hey, but don't let him smooth & tool your coins (that's unacceptable!)
;)
-
Great addition, ;D +++
Q.
-
Added 4 more coins to my gallery this morning. 3 I have had for a while and 1 new addition.
First off are three I purchased though Forum Auctions.
Marcus Aurelius with Salus Reverse.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153893
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-153892
The new addition is a tiny gem from Lesbos. It is only 7 mm and .2 g. Tough one to get a photo of. May have to update when I get a good macro lens.

and then a Constantius II from Rome
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159047
Just updated with photos in the post, remembering how to do this.

Filling in the gaps for coins that I have neglected posting
These two were purchased through the Forum Auctions.
The first I am not 100% sure of the full attribution though I feel I am pretty close.
This is a damaged Hadrian with Concordia reverse. Even though it is damaged I did like the portrait.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159054
This one is a pretty rough Trebonianus Gallus (my first) Though not in the best condition I do have a soft spot for any coins with lions on them.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159053
Just updated with photos in the post
-
Just looking at the Constantius II Campgate again on my work computer and I am not 100% on the attributation. It looks like on the obverse side there is a pretty clear S but I dont think there should be with the legend PROVIDEN-TIAE CAESS. Maybe an overstrike?
I may have to pull this one and send it to identification for help now.

Still catching up ..
Two coins I picked up from a Savoca Coins auction earlier this spring.
First off a Vespasian with Victory reverse. I loved the snakes in this one.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159073
Keeping with my theme of animals is this coin from Troas with Alexandria
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159072
I have come to realize I seem to have a soft spot for coins with animals. If I ever find a Roman with a Golden Retriever ....
-
Love the Vespasian. Mine is in very similar condition. Reminiscent of the Eastern Cistophoric types and earlier Augustan quinarii.
-
Continuing the catching up of purchases I present these two to my gallery.
Serrated Anonymous isssue. One of my first serrated coins. I love the depiction of the Dioscuri
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159096
Secondly this issue from Q Marcius, C Fabius & L Roscius with Quadriga reverse.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159095
Snagged both through a lot sale and very please with the condition.

Adding a few more to my main gallery. 2 I have had a while and haven't been good at updating and 1 I just added.
First are two denarius with one from L. Thorius Balbus

the second which was on my desired list from C Poblicius with Roma and Hercules strangling the Nemean lion.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-160128
The third today is a Provincial of Hadrian from Alexandria. It was a spur of the moment purchase but am thrilled with it. Love the clear Ibis on the reverse.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-160127
Need to pick up my pace to get things added however when I get working on my coins I get easily distracted and never get anything done.

Great Hadrian Obol, one on wish list

Thanks Eric. I picked it up in a lot of 20 Greek/Roman Coins.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the Campgates. I feel my collection is growing nicely.
Well tonight I am showing off 5 of my additions to my Greek Collection. Obviously from all the help I ask for in the identification forum I am not as confident in this area in attributing them, so feel free if you see any mistakes to correct me.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-166261

Today I uploaded 10 to the gallery. The first, I believe, is a Mule and somewhat scarce, the second an ancient imitation but most of them are pretty common.

Happy to add this large provincial AE36 from Antioch ad Maeandrum, Caria. of Gallienus to my gallery. Fits a couple of my collecting interests with the architecture and being a Gallienus. Very happy with it, as doesn't look like there are many specimens out there.
