Greek coin authenticity edge crack
« on: November 25, 2019, 01:30:02 pm »
Hello

This coin seems to have a closed edge crack. It could be a flan defect or the cast. I appreciate some expert opinions on this coin

Can I add it to fake reports so others will know to avoid it?

I added this to fake coin report as it seems we reached a consensus on it being fake

A single opinion is not a consensus. The picture is a bit small and no weight is given, but I see nothing wrong with the coin.

Hi CY,

I agree with Pscipio. From the photos, I don't see anything wrong with the coin that is blatantly obvious.

Better photos would help, but I don't see any signs that the edge cracks were filled with molten metal.

Your understanding of edge cracks/splits on ancient coins seems to be in its infancy.

Thanks for your opinions but now I am more confused , some of you say it is fake and some say it is genuine ? What is the truth?

Thanks for clarification. I misunderstood it. It seems someone already removed the fake report for this coin. More opinions are very welcome :)

The photos, while clear, do not show any detail of the area of supposedly filled in edge cracks.

But how about closed crack? How it can be explained? also the edge has a line although it doesnt go all the way along the edge but in some sections of the edge it is visible

I agree.  I don't see anything that would make me question this one.
