Hi,
I think it is Fides or Bonus Eventus.

I agree.  Seems to be a female figure holding up dish of fruit in right hand, holding grain ears lowered in left hand, with altar in front.

No exact match on coinage but some very close.  Fides and female Bonus Eventus can be found in same pose but without altar.  Nude male Bonus Eventus can be found in same pose with altar.

Gem style and ring style would seem to indicate late 2nd through 3rd century AD.

Hello,

It is Bonus eventus, a common representation of the 2nd-3rd cent. AD period, confirmed by the type of ring. The male deity holds a plate of fruit, and a wheat-ear; at his feet, a wheat-ear. Below are some examples of better style, a plasma from the Metropolitan Museum (New York), different pose (holding a branch) but with wheat-ear at feet, and a nicolo from the Bibliothèque Nationale (Paris), without wheat-ear at feet.

Ave!

A very nice ring and a wonderful find!

The figure of Bonus Eventus is certainly in a Roman Provincial-style (Dalmatia/Pannonia) and the gem may be carnelian. (Shawn taught me that!)

Here is our example of a similar carnelian intaglio of Fortuna (seated left, holding wheat ear and cornucopia, rudder before) in the same Roman Provincial style.

As found and after restoration by a silver smith.

As seen in our photos, our ring features a clear 3rd Cent. long "hunched-shoulder type" shape.

From Shawn -

Quote
Gem style and ring style would seem to indicate late 2nd through 3rd century AD.

Without the hunched-shoulder shape, it is a transitional ring of the period. Or, I'm just full of crap and have no idea what I'm talking about.  ::)

Best,

Kevin

I think that the plain rounded shape of ring lasted longer, and Kevin's shouldered type is the rarer and shorter lived type.

Thanks Jerome for noting that it is a giant ear of wheat and not an altar on the ground.  Interesting and now that you point it out it is clear.
