Seal Stamp. Need Help

(1/1)

Simon:
I got this in a group lot from an auction house in Europe.  It is a small small seal stamp.  Smaller than a dime.

It looks Byzantine but it can also be Latin. Can anyone figure it out?

When I bought it I could not see the face, I thought it might be Islamic but in looking at it now I eliminated that. Whatever it is, it is really interesting.

Any assistance I would appreciate.

Thanks,

Simon

Gert:
That is a Greek monogram, c. 7th-8th century I'd say. The positive impression would have K on the left, NC on the right, TOV on top and AW below.

It can be solved KWNCTANTINOV, Konstantinou, the genitive of the name Konstantinos, ("of Constantine"), which is expected for early Byzantine seal stamps.
monogram.

Gert

Gert:
Right image rotated and mirrored to show the imprint.

Simon:
Boom! Thank You Gert, I am surprised it is that old. Thank You.
