Identification Help / Help identify Khosrow II Sassanian silver coin.
« Last post by Talha H on Today at 09:44:27 am »
Please could someone tell me if they think this coin looks genuine I bought it off eBay, the weight and size looks correct, but I’m not an expert and would like some help. The edges are smooth, no cast lines no tool marks.

The seller said this coin was a genuine coin, saying it was hammered and that’s why it looks like this, after receiving the coin u can clearly see it firstly is smaller in size (weight is normal) it’s heavy feeling but, and the edges have tool marks from a file and cast lines, u can see the patina also looks fake, with the raised edges all polished up, I told the seller and they said “my opinion is not valid”, and asked for “documentation” and then say they won’t pay return label, but luckily eBay stepping in and they said that the seller is responsible until the 1st, then they will issue a refund and I can keep the fake coin. It’s so annoying that this occurred, I mabe thought the seller wasn’t aware and mabe it’s also their mistake but I feel like they knew it was a fake after the second messages they sent.

AE 17mm.   2.70g.

Could this coin be the Antioch ad Maeandrum mint of Augustus and Gaius Caesar?

Thank you in advance.

This is always possible Meepzorp, but I think on this subject it seems very unlikely.

Because the prow style of the Samian galley seems to be quite different from the Pantakapion prows!

However, I don't want to comment definitively.  After that, I think it's the job of the experts here.

Phrygia. Laodikeia ad Lycum. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Time of the Severans AD 193-235.
I can't find it in the catalogue, could it be Alejandro Severo?
