Silvered Coin Cleaning
« on: March 23, 2007, 03:27:15 pm »
I have come across a Licinius I coin.  All the references say it is brass with silvering.  It has some dirt on it and if it wasn't for the silvering I don't think I would have a problem cleaning it.  But it looks like full silvering seems to be left, I want to bring out the details, but how do I clean a coin like this?
Licinius I. 308-324 AD. Æ Follis (3.6gm).  Cyzicus mint.
IMP LICI-NIVS AVG, laureate and draped bust left, holding sceptre, globe, and mappa
IOVI CONS-ERVATORI AVGG, Jupiter standing left, chalmys across left shoulder, holding sceptre and Victory on globe;
wreath/Z/SMK.
RIC VII 9. Silvered
If all the world's a stage, I want to operate the trap door

First put it in DW and then use a normal tooth brush.
