Hello.
Please let me know if you have some info about the
semis from
Carteia,
Spain under
Roman rule. According to some sources, the name L. MARC (
Lucius Marcius?) on the coin belongs to
quaestor, lowest-ranking regular magistrate in ancient
Rome and probably in
Carteia under
Roman rule, whose traditional responsibility was the treasury.
Please let me know if L. MARC (
Lucius Marcius?) related to
Lucius Marcius Philippus (
consul in 91 BC), or
Lucius Marcius Philippus (
consul in 56 BC), or
Lucius Marcius Philippus (
consul in 38 BC).
Only
Lucius Marcius Philippus (
consul in 38 BC) related to
Spain. By 35 BC, he was appointed the proconsular governor of one of the two provinces of
Hispania. After serving there for two years, he returned to
Rome, where he was awarded a triumph which he celebrated on April 27, 33 BC for
his actions while governor.
Unfortunately I don’t know the year of issue of this coin, how
rare it is. The similar coins I found during the internet
search indicated
catalog number AB-622, which probably La Moneda Hispanica (A.
Burgos) number 622.
Unfortunately, I don’t have this book. I’ll be appreciate for any information about this coin.
