Hi,

Looks to be a Roman crossbow form from the fourth century.

Regards,

Mauseus

Benito is an evil, evil man.  Though correct.  He means that fibulae is the plural - like saying fibulas - so you have an interesting fibula not an interesting fibulae.

As for type it is Keller/Prottel 3/4 b.  They are dated AD 320/330 - 420.  The fat bow and decoration of yours makes it very likely to be late - I would guess 370-420.

What is really interesting is the hook-like device that seems to be in the catch groove of the foot.

Some question if you don't mind:

- is the bow hollow?, what is its weight? (if you have access to a scale)
- is that hook-thing actually fastened into that groove or did you just find it in there?  if it is attached with what??
- there appears to be a pin where the bow meets the foot, is there one on each side??
