Title: Hasmoneous prutah ID help (I hope I did not post it 2x)
Post by: Peter G5 on December 09, 2019, 03:51:41 pm
Dear Board,

I have no talent for read my ancestors writing, complete disappointment...can someone help me to determine the high priest of this coin (if possible)?
(Other side is very off-center, some parts of a cornucopia can be seen)

Thank you for your help in advance!

I think it is Alexander Jannaeus (Yehonatan). Please take a look at the attached coin from my collection. You have to check each letter and its neighbours left, right, above and below. Then you can see the coincidence.

Thank you very much, now I have started to recognize the similar characters! (until now I was wondered why people could not read the legends of roman coins....now I begin to understand them)
