Tetricus II ID

I am illustrating the flan issue here, with these coins. They are SPES PVBLICA, RIC 272 (I think). But they do illustrate the occasional ragged, small flans, ocaasionally odd-shaped with large amounts of loss due to off-centred strikes etc.
At this point the Gallic empire was in a bit of turmoil (to put it lightly) and qualty control at the mints was pretty poor.

Browsing in the gallery you can find example of SPES AVGG like yours. Here is one from Robert Brenchley who is more of a Gallic specialist than myself. There are others there if you wish to look simply go to the gallery and search for "Tetricus SPES AVGG".

Hi Mark,

mint Kšln (Colonia Agrippina), now in Germany.

Best regards.

Robert_Brenchley:
I have it down as Trier, Issue 5, but as I said on the Postumus thread, there's no certainty on these.
