Barbarous LRB FEL TEMP, Or What?
(1/1)
John the Chess Guy:
Hi Everyone:
This one has me puzzled. The obverse legend seems blundered/incomprehensible
and the exergue is unusual, to say the least - "ALFL".
What do you think?
If barbarous, what is trying to be imitated here?
Many thanks in advance,
John

John --
I can't enlarge the picture.... but could the legend be DN IVLIA-NVS NOB C - Julian II?
The intended mintmark -- Possibly ALE :Greek_Delta: ? M on left side?
That would match it with one of these two:
Julian II DN IVLIANVS-NOB CAES BDC FEL TEMP-REPARATIO pointed cap, reaching ALE delta M Alexandria Alexandria 85 15-17 mm S
Julian II DN IVLIANVS-NOB CAES BDC FEL TEMP-REPARATIO pointed cap, clutching ALE delta M Alexandria Alexandria 86 15-17 mm S
Hope it's some help!

John the Chess Guy:
Thank you very much, Dave.
AMENDED:
I think the attribution (RIC VIII 85 or 86 Alexandria) is right on target!
John
