Commodus Sestertius Annona - new variant?
(1/1)
Arminius:
Hello,
I found this one on my desk but not in the common databases:
Commodus, Rome mint, 183 AD., 2nd issue,
Æ Sestertius (30-33 mm / 19.55 g),
Obv.: COMMODVS AVG ANTONINVS AVG PIVS , laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Commodus right, seen from behind.
Rev.: [AN]N AVG TR P VIII IMP VI COS IIII P P / - C , Annona standing l. holding statuette of Concordia? and cornucopiae; to l. modius with corn-ears, to r. ship with three figures and Victory.
RIC - (cf 364, without ship with three figures and Victory, - 325a with different dates) .
Maybe this had been incompletely or misdescribed in RIC(?).
Coinarchieves or wildwinds show no type like this.
Regards
A.

Seems published, Cohen 13 (Paris), BMC 502 note. RIC 377 cites Cohen, but forgets to mention the ship and rowers.
