Tiberius Mopsus countermark

(1/1)

Robert:
Hi Board! Has anyone come across such a countermark? What can be depicted on it? Altar? A coin from Mopsus, Tiberius: https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/1/4047

I searched on my own but couldn't find anything.

Thank You!

Robert

Altamura:
I would say it is an altar as you find it quite often on coins of Mopsos:
https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?term=mopso+alta&category=1&lot=&date_from=&date_to=&thesaurus=1&images=1&en=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1&es=1&ot=1&currency=usd&order=1

Regards

Altamura

Edit:
In RPC online you find a coin from Tiberius with this countermark: https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/countermark/1019
but they don't tell what the object is  :(.

Meepzorp:
Hi Robert,

The countermark on your coin looks like the rock formation on the cover of Rush's "Test for Echo" album. ;D

Seriously, I agree with you and Altamura that it is probably an altar.

Meepzorp

Robert:
Thank you very much Altamura and Meepzorp! Its really looks like the Rush cover rock formation ;D

Robert
