Any help to id this tessera is most welcome, is it a Medusa? GorgonRoman? Greek?

I think it is.  Medusa and Gorgon are really the same thing when it comes to sculpture.  Looks like an earlier Greek version to me.

I believe that the design - almost a cartoonish, jovial gorgon - is very early.  Archaic??  But must have been used later too.  try googling Greek gorgon images.  I have seen it on coins too.

half stater from Anatolia (Asia Minor).
6th century BC.

Any thoughts any one? Could it be from later era????

What are the size and weight?  Earlier pieces tend to be thicker/smaller for their weight.

The coin on the right is archaic.  I am not sure the lead tessera is archaic even though they have similar hair and lack a protruding tongue.

The coin on the right is one of the few archaic Greek gorgoneions that doesn't have a protruding tongue.

My guess is that the tessera is from the Hellenistic or Roman periods.

Thanks alot for the replies, i still do not have the weight and diameter i will contact the seller for them, and yes i have a feeling that it is from later times maybe Roman!!!
