I agree with you here, but we must remember that a big-budgeted Cleo film starring a less than stunning actress could never be made. The modern conception of Cleo in the mainstream is that she was very beautiful, and that this was a major component of her guile and charm. Relatively few of us actually know that she was probably not exceptionally beautiful by our modern standards, and we also have the image of the gorgeous Liz
Taylor as Cleo indelibly burned into our minds, which has set the
standard for any portrayal that
comes after it. I actually think that Jolie could be a
good fit here, because although she is quite beautiful, she has great depth as an actress and a very healthy dark
side to her personality that I feel would lend itself well to portraying the ruthlessness and cunning of Cleo.
