Cool animated gif showing map of Roman Empire
« on: March 22, 2011, 05:30:03 pm »
I just noticed this cool animated gif on Wikipedia showing the geographic expansion and contraction of the Roman Empire between 510 B.C and 1453 A.D.  Definitely worth a look.

That is pretty cool (and sort of sad seeing somthing as vast and powerful as the Roman Empire reduced succinctly to a 60+-second gif...). Thanks for the link! :)

was pretty cool and sad at the same time.

One could argue that Charlamagnes' empire should have been depicted... or even the German / Goth's version of the empire....(as short as it was)

You can see the period of uncontrollable expansion before the Varus Disaster, but the images are too far apart to really get a feel for what's happening.

I'm glad you all liked it!  800+ years must be a record for the decline and fall of an empire.
