« on: July 26, 2005, 05:57:01 am »
Can anyone tell me which mint this Valerian I antoninianus comes from?

I think it is from Antioch mint, RIC 284, 253 AD.

Thanks Lars. The lack of a star on the reverse threw me as I dont have access to my references at the moment.

Same question for this Aurelian, as far as I know its usually just attributed as "Unattributed mint", has anyone been able to attribute this type to a specific mint?

I think these are assigned to a specific mint, just  that the location of the mint is not certain, but if I read the French correctly, "not far from the mints of Siscia and Serdica".

How very interesting, an unlocated mint. Thanks Steve. :)

While RIC assigns the Valerian coin to "Asia (Antioch)", Göbl says SamosataCoins of this mint nearly always feature reverses with two figures, and a reverse with two figures on an eastern issue of this family is almost diagnostic for Samosata.
