John,

Thats quite a rare coin, and in nice condition too!

The reverse legend is IVST VENER MEMOR, and the mint is Alexandria - SMAL + officina in exergue.

The attribution is RIC VIII Alexandria 28, minted in 345-347. RIC rates the coin as merely "scarce", but I'd say that's rather an understatement!

Hi Ben

Thank you very much for the identification, and the compliment. I bought it for 5$ at my local ancient coin shop.

Regards

John

HI Ben

What does IVST stands for??

Is it Aequitas standing left holding scales and a (scroll ??) on the Reverse??

John,

I believe IVST (JUST) means just in the sense of fair, so the legend means "justly venerated memory". It is Aequitas, but I'm not sure what she's holding in her left hand - it looks like a sceptre, perhaps.

Edit: Yep - the description says it's a sceptre, and she's also winged on this coin, which is what was confusing me!

That was a great find for $5!

I am having a hard time reading it because it is partly off flan, but I believe that it is  :Greek_Gamma:.  The choices for this time period at Alexandria are - A (first), B (second),  :Greek_Gamma: (third) and  :Greek_Delta: (forth)

HI Cscoppa!

Great work, even having the coin in my hand I cannot decept the exergue.

Thanks and best regards
