Zeno AE4 RIC 3650
« on: June 25, 2025, 07:10:31 am »
Hi all

Last week i received this AE4 of Zeno. It is atributed to the Ravenna mint, thus being minted under Odoacer's reign (476-491 AD), which makes it for me a much more special coin than the 'usual' eastern AE4's of Zeno.
If attributed correctly, it should be RIC X 3650, however i am a little puzzled about the reverse. RIC 3650 should only have a Victory with wreath and palm, but this coin also clearly shows a captive next to the Victory. Additionally there appears to be some (garbled?) legend.
I cannot really find other pictures of RIC 3650 online for references though.
Is this some rare variety, or is the reverse description in RIC simply incomplete?
Thanks in advance!

gr Luuk

Thank you, i think it might be RIC 949 indeed. No Ravenna / Odoacer provenance, but alas.
