Ancient coin with need of ID
« on: October 07, 2011, 08:32:47 pm »
Hi every one.
I have this ancient coin but it's not the typical type that I'm used to,
Can any one help me with this?
Weight = 6,2gr - Diameter = 1,5cm - Thickness = 3mm
The coin is more yellow "goldish" than the picture

I would appreciate it very much if some one can help me Identify it,
King regards,

Hi all,
it seems like a difficult one...  Has any one any idea of were this coin comes from?
I looked through Greek, Gaul, Roman, Celtic but just can't seem to find any thing like it.
Dimention wise and texture seems like it comes from about 1600 to 2000 Years ago's style of coinage..
The shape some how seems like its not from Europe though.. I might be wrong but...
Any ways if any one can give me any leads to understand where it comes from I would surely apreciate it.
Best regards,
Ozaki

I would guess Celtic or Gaul, but these can be difficult to track down if you don't know what you are doing!
All the best,
Nathan

Looks Arabic or Indian to me.

I would post it where more experts on southern Asian coins are watching the ID section (eg. http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/ ).

The division in three lines makes me think of Indian coinage....

I was thinking Indian as well, lets see if anyone here recognizes it.

Thank you for all the replys, I was wondering what had happened to my "subject", I couldnt find it, but it was just moved.  :P
I asked around as well and some one came up with Anglosaxon coinage of a porcupine type, but a couple of things didnt match, the weight and the direction the needles were facing..
I will look intoancient indian coins and south east asia.
Thanks again to all
