Fake Severus Alexander AE Sestertius ?
« on: January 16, 2023, 08:12:28 am »
Hi, saw this one on auction but I feel that there's some red flags.
1/ looks to good
2/ no patina, verdigris or signs of age.

So, it's real or fake one?

27 mm - Severus Alexander AE Sestertius. AD 231. 22.36 gr. IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG, laureate head right, slight drapery on left shoulder / P M TR P X COS III PP, S-C, Sol standing facing, looking left, holding whip and raising right hand. RIC 513; Sear 7999; Cohen 415.

thanks.

Looks totally normal, just over-cleaned.

It is not RIC 513, however. Bust is draped (or draped and cuirassed),
and thus RIC 515.

Vetting potential purchase? That's not allowed.

I agree with the above experts and compared it to a specimen in my collection
