My not-so-ancient medieval coin gallery
« on: March 07, 2020, 02:15:27 pm »
Hi,

Have been adding a decent amount to my galleries over the past few years.  The theme is medieval coins of the British Isles, with a touch of Scandinavian and French thrown in.  Still working on photography technique and some of the descriptions.  It remains a work in progress.

Great collection. I am very impressed, especially with your Scottish coins  ;)

Great gallery!  Love all the high grade and the portrait coins. Wessex is especially well represented.

My medieval collection is actually quite similar, but without the Irish/Scottish element, and  adding in crusaders. My British selection ends in the Tudors. I stick to the hammered coins, whereas the Stuarts start in with the presses.

And speaking about a work in progress, my medieval collection isn’t yet online.  ::)
Just moved to South Carolina and I’m up to my neck in boxes. I will have to reshoot the coins and upload (one of my many 2020 resolutions).

I am updating my images for many of the coins.  My pictures are still suboptimal but I think they have improved over the last few years.  In particular, I think the designs on the early Anglo-Saxon sceattas are better appreciated with the new images.  Still have a bunch to do though, but comments are always welcome.

Very nice additions (or replacements, I cannot always tell). Photos are fantastic.
My 2021 FAC resolution is to upload my Medieval Coin collection. Of course, I'll have to catalog and photograph anew...
Meanwhile I take pleasure from watching this space :-).

As someone who has a gallery of British coins here myself, I must say you have some very nice coins.

You have some stunningly beautiful coins. Thank you for sharing those. The only medieval coins I want to collect are Crusaders, but yours sure makes me want to expand on that interest. Very nice.

Hi,

Have started the long-needed process of updating photographs.  Hopefully for the last time.

Over the last year have been able to add a few significant coins, including some gold thrymsas (early Anglo-Saxon versions of tremisses).  As well as some sceattas (English deniers), Saxon pennies, medieval Irish coins, and a few others.

You have a wonderful collection and your gallery is one that I visit regularly. I have your gallery URLs on "speed-dial"  ;D, but you should add a link to your profile to make it easier for other FORVM members to visit them.

Just like *Alex, I love perusing your galleries from time to time.
I am curious where you found your Erik VII ("the Pirate King") of Pommerania sterling.  Was it in an auction

Thank you!  I have become more interested in Scandinavian medieval coins recently, and have added a few.  Not done with British but find it hard to add to the collection lately.

The Erik of Pomerania sterling was from an Estonian seller on eBay actually.

I believe Agora auctions also had one or two in their most recent auction.
