Title: Barclay Head Historia Numorum 1911
Post by: helvetica on January 24, 2023, 08:47:18 pm
It is so frustrating that on the entire internet there is ONE pdf of the 1911 version of Barclay Head Historia Numorum.
Archive.org has that pdf BUT almost every odd-numbered page from and including 609 to the end, so including Caria etc. are missing.
The Archive.org pdf is the google pdf.
The HN website gives the archive.org link to the incomplete copy, as do half a dozen other websites.
Hathitrust apparently has two of them but even using a US proxy and the Hathitrust Download Helper, it is either only "searchable" or can't be downloaded hy HDH.

Is there a complete copy pdf anywhere ??

For me it works fine with the Hathi Download Helper and the scan from the University of Michgan :).
What kind of problem do you have there?

Also: This one at Hathi via Princeton is a different scan and it looks serviceable (not terribly high quality). I didn't check every page, but I see odd pages above the 600s. It seems downloadable:

Here is the Hathi via Michigan that I assume Altamura is referencing. I would say it is the better quality, preferable of the two:

Too bad none of them look as good as the high quality 1887 PDF's you can find (e.g. ACSearch's Library [LINK] (https://www.acsearch.info/login.html)).

(Incidentally, I was glad to find both copies. I was just researching an old collection tag that I am trying to date by the Historia Numorum reference. [Img LINK] (https://i.imgur.com/vva3y6p.jpg) It was 1887. Now I just need to figure out which turn-of-the-century British collector/dealer wrote it! I suspect one of the Lincolns.)

The problem I was having was apparently my own fault. I was using the wrong number as the mdp number in HDH.  Seems to be working now ::)

I downloaded the "Hathi via Michigan" offering and checked the pages. They are all there, but four pages are askew; these are: 775, 777, 779, 783.

Many of the coin images are 'washed out', while many others look good. All in all, a serviceable PDF.

I found another copy of the 1911 edition on Hathitrust (via the above link). This one has good pages 775, 777, 779, AND 783. This copy has its own individual page problems and also appears to be one that people like me can't download all in one go (a login is needed).
