Is this an CELTIC Coin????
« on: November 03, 2004, 08:15:59 pm »
Hi All!

I am hopeful someone can help as I am pulling my hair out with this coin. I have searched and searched and asked almost everyone I can find and no one can tell me for certain what it is. I tcame out of a lot of 1000 odds and ends I bought from a dealer and I suspect they came from various lots from various places so I cannot even narrow down where exactly it was found.  Here goes:

I have no idea what it is. It measures about 10 MM in size, and a
fraction of a Millimeter thick, although I think it has been cut
down. I originally thought it was silver, but now am not so sure as
it will not shine up, and is very soft and pliable, and it has been
suggested to me it is Billion? although the corner when scratched,
shines a bright silvery color. The back appears to actually be
nothing at all but may have a small marking on it. I also would say
it has been clipped down from the shape of it and it appears that
way as well. Here is a scan of it:

About the closest thing I can find to it, is this:

Which is:

Iceni, silver Minim. `Ecen' coinage. 38-40 AD. Two crescents,
pellets. Rv: Celticized horse l., star below, VA 744-1. Extremely
rare. EF $675.

What I am hopeful of, is that someone can give me a definite Yes or
No as to whether or not it is Celtic, An approximate date of it and
maybe even a tribal association, and of course if it has any value
in a ball park area?

All suggestions and information GREAT APPRECIATED, I am running out
of hair LOL!!

It could be billon. By the way is the coin really really thin?

1 mm is quite much,so it seems more probably a celtic coin..... but it could be also a medieval denier. do you know where the lot is from?
