Very interesting!  I always thought that references to these ships as "beaked" (as in "He found Achilles by his beaked ship") meant the pointed ramming devices at the bow.

Well now we know. I had thought the Aphlaston  was just a decoration on a prow beak. Jim A

Thank you for the comments, gentlemen.  The "beaked" reference certainly could also be interpreted as the battering ram.
