Titus IMP XV Capricorn Denarius
« on: April 28, 2021, 01:15:39 pm »
Hello everyone.

A few years ago I read an article stating that the eruption of Vesuvius would have occurred in October of the year 79 A.D., instead of August as previously believed.

Among the evidence in support of this new date, the author also indicated the presence in a hoard found in Pompeii, of a denarius of Titus with Capricorn, bearing the fifteenth acclamation, which could not be earlier than the month of September.

I finally managed to acquire a nice specimen of that coin, perfectly enjoyable despite a short flan.

I particularly love its old collection toning.

I'm please to share it here

Alberto

Thanks Jay for your kind comment and thanks David for pointing out the Abdy's article, which I did not know.

I will enjoy the coin even though the specific historical reference has gone.
