Hard crust on nice bronze, what to do?
« on: October 05, 2010, 08:31:31 am »
What would you do with this coin? It´s a follis in rather good condition, but the remaining crust is hard and it seem almost impossible to remove without damaging the coin. Anyone knows what to do? Should I leave it? Or can anything be done?

Best regards
Pierre

Pierre,

While I should defer to the experts here, I can tell you that I have had some success with an X-acto knife using a curved blade.

If you decide to go that route, GO SLOWLY and start in the smooth areas until you gain some expertise.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with leaving your coin as-is since it's very nice!

Regards,
mz

Thanks for your replys! As I´m not a very skilled cleaner I guess I better leave it as it is.
regards
Pierre
