Vespasian Spes As with Jumbled Obv. Legend? VESINIAN?
« on: March 01, 2023, 05:12:29 pm »
Hello Everyone. As you can see, this is a Vespasian As with Spes reverse (no legend). The obverse legend is very widely spaced as I M P  C A E S A R  V E S, which wide spacing of IMP CAESAR is known for this type. There is smoothing between all these letters. There are eleven characters after the S, unsmoothed. Try as I might, that letter after S is no P. There might be some traces of a first strike on top of a few letters there, but that still doesn't make the letter a P. Blown-up, it looks like VESINIAN... any ideas? Wild goose chase?
