Hi folks,

I am now done posting my "log jam" of files (photos) that was a result of my FTP not working. Those were my "new arrivals". I finally got caught up.

Those were also the last photos I shot before my old iPhone 4 died. Going forward, I will probably have to use my Android phone. I will have to figure out how to use it and sync it with my computer.

I assume that I will resume working on my website now. I will probably pick up where I left off in March.

Hi folks,

As I explained above, my old iPhone 4 died several days ago. For several years (since 2015), I had been using it to shoot photos for my coin project. Going forward, I will have to use my Android phone, which is only a few months old. However, since I am unfamiliar with it, it is taking time for me to figure everything out. Today, I shot my next series of photos.

When I attempted to transfer the photos to my HP laptop computer, I experienced a major problem. My computer wasn't recognizing my Android phone. The USB cable was connected to my computer and Android phone, but my computer kept telling me that it wasn't connected. I opened my file window, and it was the same reading. My computer was showing that my Android phone wasn't connected to it despite the fact that it really was. It was another one of those "technical glitch moments". I figured that it had to be something simple and/or stupid. But what?

I did several internet searches and came across about 15 different trouble-shooting websites for these types of issues. Of course, as usual, most of them are absolutely useless. I finally came across one technically-detailed and lengthy website that seemed to contain useful information. There was a big, long list of trouble-shooting techniques and sets of instructions to follow. I grinded through them one by one. When I reached the fifth or sixth set of trouble-shooting instructions, I finally hit "pay dirt".

It turned out that my Android phone had the "data transfer" mode turned off. It was blocking all data transfer. I don't know why. I assume that this is some sort of factory default setting. That is why my computer wasn't recognizing it, and it kept telling me that it wasn't connected despite the fact that it really was. As soon as I clicked on "enable file transfer", the photos appeared in my computer's photo app almost instantaneously, faster than you can blink your eyes. There they were.

I knew it was something simple and/or stupid. But the hardest part is trying to figure out which one of those simple/stupid things is actually the problem. It took me about 45 minutes of trouble-shooting, and I wanted bang my head against the wall, but it finally worked. I was able to successfully transfer my photos from my Android phone to my HP laptop computer.

I didn't process the photos yet. I will probably do that later today or tomorrow.

Hi folks,

Today, I added 2 new pages to my website:

Modern World, Canada, Part 5:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/meepzorp/mw_canada_pt05.htm

Modern World, Canada, Part 6:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/meepzorp/mw_canada_pt06.htm

These are the first photos I shot with my Android phone. I think I need to re-shoot one of my photos tomorrow. It is the first photo in my Part 6 page. Apparently, my new Android phone struggles with small coins, just as my old iPhone 4 did. And there is about 15 years of technology between them.

Meepzorp,

I had exactly the same problem and learned that every time I connect my new phone to my computer, I have to go on the phone and enable data transfer. My old Android was automatic, like a USB stick. I haven't found a way to make this a permanent setting (if you figure it out, let me know), so I have just made this step part of my process.

That said, I have found the new Android (not a high end model, but it has three lenses) takes the best coin photos I have so far managed to make, it zooms nicely (while being very touchy) and it seems to work well for coins. I have a nice SLR with a macro attachment that I have never been able to get decent pictures from and I don't want to spend the money on a real macro lens.

I think your Canada coin photos are good, maybe that first one on page 6 could use better focus, but all the pictures look nice to me.

Cheers,
Virgil

Hi VH,

You are right. I didn't know until today if my new Android phone would do that. It did. Every time I use it, it goes back to blocking all data/file transfers. I must change it manually every time I use it. I also don't know how to make it permanent. Yes, it is annoying, and it is an extra step in the process.

You've been busy!  So many additions to your website this August...  I was perusing the medieval Italian pages in particular, looking for denaro minuto (denaro piccolo) to help Joe on a specific search of his.  My search on FAC members' galleries don't include your site, does it?  I often saw your site when using Google

Hi Anax,

I don't think that a search of FAC members' galleries would include my site. Technically, it isn't a gallery. It is a separate website that is hosted by Joe's website. In other words, it is a website that is contained within another website.

Hi folks,

I have Covid again. I had it once before, from December 2019 to March 2020. I am vaccinated (2 shots) and boosted (1 shot).

My mother (who is 80 years old) got it about 10 days ago. She tested positive for Covid twice in the past several days. She is vaccinated (2 shots) but not boosted.

She must have given it to me because I started feeling Covid symptoms today. I feel terrible.
