Title: Cleaning tip on provincial needed
Post by: 67aiga7a on December 01, 2014, 02:41:04 pm
Hi all,

The patina on the below coin is quite chipped and seems fragile, but there are few spots of soil left that I would love to remove. Will water or olive oil weaken the patina further if soaked, or shall I try mechanical removal or perhaps even seal it with ren wax and leave it as it is to prevent further damage  ??? ?

Thanks in advance!

The patina is all that is preserving the details.  There is nothing to fix on the back and I would not even risk the front.  You could pop the whole centre part off trying to clean it.  It is pretty decent as is and fully identifiable.

Personally I would leave it.
